What is Chiropractic? How Does Chiropractic Work?
The nervous system controls every part of the human body. Instructions sent from the brain travel down the spinal cord out to every cell in every tissue, in every organ in you. Your spinal cord is encased by bones called vertebrae. Nerves exit the spinal cord in spaces in between the vertebrae. If these vertebrae are misaligned they make the spaces that the nerves exit smaller. This loss of space puts pressure on these nerves. This pressure causes the instructions sent by the brain to the cells to slow down or stop. This causes the cells to malfunction, resulting in pain or problems with the organs themselves. Now because there are many muscles that attach to the vertebrae themselves, with the vertebrae being out of position. The muscles and tendons are stretched causing pain and discomfort. When your chiropractor adjusts your vertebrae he returns the vertebrae to its normal position. This takes pressure off the nerve and releases tension on the nerves and tendons. What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
The purpose of a chiropractic adjustment is to restore the proper alignment and motion of the spine. Performing an adjustment removes nerve irritation and restores proper nerve functioning. What are the Benefits of an Adjustment?
Are Adjustments Painful?
- Increased range of motion
- Decreased pain
- Increased blood flow; nutrients to a joint
- Decreases the process of degenerative joint disease
Reactions to the adjustments differ from person to person depending on their condition. Most adjustments provide relief and a sense of relaxation. However, some patients may experience some mild soreness following the adjustment. .
